Poetic Performance
Sunday

with Patrick Dubost & Hélène Van Loo
Exhibition
From 18.05
until 25.05.2025
In a unique and poetic performance, author Patrick Dubost will give voice to his own texts, drawn from his book "Juste un mot" published following his encounter with artist Ode Bertrand, who created the illustrations.
Surrounded by the works of Ode Bertrand — built around rhythm, structure, emptiness, and silence — Dubost’s words will resonate, carried by the musical improvisation of flutist Hélène Van Loo.
This encounter between Poetry, Visual Arts, and Music will open the short-lived exhibition Entre les lignes.
Ode Betrand is one of the leading figures of geometric abstraction. She was the only student and assistant of Aurelie Nemours. Emmanuel Guigon, in his work dedicated to the miniatures, described her work as a painter and draughtswoman in these terms: “Ode Bertrand organizes, measures, she composes. She does not oppose the desire for clarity to the taste for ambiguity, spontaneity to construction. Here, the spirit of geometry plays tricks on itself. It practices doubting everything. It invites us not to draw rigid boundaries where they do not exist, nor to make radical cuts that everywhere seek to impose order.”
For the 2Rives collection, she proposed a series of works in continuity with her so-called “miniatures,” marked by great sobriety, almost like a pure abstraction. It feels like a reminder of the essential moments in her work, a presence of the line in a white space, given in a grand scansion, an intertwining that focuses on nodal points, grave and acute accents.
Ode Bertrand has been exhibited in many galleries: Cahiers d’Art (Paris), Lahumière (Paris), Concreto (Calassetta), Olivier Nouvellet, Claude Dorval, Atelier-Édition Fanal (Basel), La Ligne (Zurich),Oniris (Rennes), Galerie Cour Carré (Paris), and Lee Bauwens Gallery (Brussels).
Several editions and catalogues trace her career: Les Chants croisés de l’ordre et du chaos, catalogue I and II, Modiarte Editions, Cagliari, 2004, Orgue sérigraphies, Atelier-Édition Fanal, Basel, 2007; Trait et Lumière, introduction by Serge Lemoine, interview with Anne Tronche, text by Évelyne de Montaudoüin, Somogy Editions, 2007, Les Miniatures, text by Emmanuel Guigon and Germain Roesz, Cour Carrée & l’Harmattan Editions, 2010.

After studying mathematics and musicology, Patrick Dubost became deeply passionate about poetic writing and its vocal expression, with a constant focus on experimentation. To date, he has authored about thirty books and practices “reading/performance”, bringing his texts to life through his gestures and sometimes multiplied voice.
The poem thus becomes a polyphonic object. For years, Patrick Dubost has performed across France and also in Great Britain, Italy, Albania, Greece, Croatia, Tunisia, Argentina, Lebanon, and frequently in Quebec. Some of his books have been translated and published in other languages, and his performances often incorporate translation as an additional voice in this polyphony. Some of his texts are also circulating in theater or object theater.

Hélène Van Loo is a multifaceted musician, trained in classical music, jazz, and world music. She graduated in classical flute from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2009, and then continued her studies in jazz flute and singing at the Jazz BXL school for two years.
Curious about the music around her, she also explores European, Latin, and African traditional repertoires, particularly through various workshops and artistic encounters.
Passionate about film music, Hélène went to Los Angeles to meet film composers, including Jeff Russo (composer of the series Fargo), for whom she recorded. She then deepened her composition skills for film with specialized training from the Berklee College of Music (Boston).
As a flutist, she has collaborated with many artists and composers, including Christophe Dassy (Belgium), Peter Anger (Belgium), Robert-Marcel Lepage (Montreal), Rémi Boubal (Paris), among others.
An eclectic musician, Hélène is also a singer. She performs with her personal project Sarrazine, as well as alongside many artists and actors, such as MacGray, Saule, Luc Vandermaelen, and La Petite Lumière – Fanny Moreau in Paris. She co-writes and performs the children’s musical show Le Voyage d’Oscar in a duo with Julien Gugel.
Additionally, she was the voice and producer of the program Murmures du monde on Musiq3 (RTBF), dedicated to world music, for four years. She now presents a podcast series entitled Tant qu’il y aura des femmes, dedicated to female artists, available on Musiq3 and Auvio.
